This trauma-informed facilitator training is designed to help you facilitate conscious connected breathwork through a lens of nervous system regulation, person-centered attunement, and earth medicine ways.

This training is an invitation for those in helping professions - clinical counsellors, nurses, coaches, yoga teachers, and bodyworkers, as well as anyone who is interested in deepening their relationship with the breath and wanting to learn how to facilitate conscious connected breathwork for others. This training is designed to offer a well-rounded and grounded foundation for breathwork facilitation, rooted in the understanding that we can only take others as far as we have traveled ourselves.

Throughout our time together, you will first be supported in the sacred process of your own personal journey and process with the breath, allowing you to embody it before you begin facilitating for others. It is an opportunity to transform long-held patterns, deepen your self-awareness, and find greater congruence in your life.

An Integrated Path to Facilitation

This in-depth, hybrid journey (in-person and virtual) will help you learn how to facilitate conscious connected breathwork for individuals, small groups, and virtually. This training will provide you with hands-on techniques and with knowledge on how to best support clients from person-centred and trauma-informed perspectives. It will also help you to understand the physical anatomy and physiology of breathing as well as the energy body and patterns of protection. You will learn attunement - learning to tune in and witness another’s patterns with compassion while gently being present with them - and also how to support deep emotional releases. Because breathwork is a potent medicine, knowing what to do in those moments is not only important, it can help the client to feel safe and well supported so they can integrate and grow from the experience.

The heart of this training lies in its synthesis of:

  • The Science: Understanding the nervous system, physiological responses to threat, bottom-up processing of trauma, and the anatomy and physiology of the breath.

  • The Psychology: Rooting our work in ethical, trauma-informed counselling theory, particularly through person-centred, somatic experiencing and internal family systems approaches.

  • The Spirit: Honouring of life, the land and the breath through ceremony and ritual from an earth medicine perspective.

  • The Body: Recognizing breath patterns and how they reflect habitual states of being. Learning hands-on techniques and when to apply them. Supporting nervous system regulation and increased capacity. Conscious connected breathing as part of your own practice and as your foundation.

  • The Relational: Attuning into the relational field with one another to develop enhanced awareness in this way. Sharing openly and authentically about our inner processes. Clearing and repairing if ruptures occur.

Your Guide and Mentorship

You will be held by the experienced guidance of Christina Niven (RCC, RP, SEP, C-IAYT). Christina brings a wealth of lived and professional experience, bridging the worlds of breathwork facilitation, clinical counselling, Somatic Experiencing, and yoga therapy with years of dedicated practice on yogic and earth medicine paths. Christina has been facilitating breathwork since 2016 and also assisted her teacher as a facilitator in several retreats and trainings over multiple years.

To ensure you feel supported as you learn, the training includes dedicated mentorship and consultation throughout your practicum. Christina is deeply committed to the safety of the container; therefore, each cohort is kept to a maximum of eight students. This intimacy allows for a slow, intentional unfolding of connection, learning, and cultivation of safety.

Program Structure

In-person training

The in-person component of the training is designed to include four in-person weekends plus two additional weekend days. The first two weekends will focus on your personal relationship with the breath. This is where you have the opportunity to deeply immerse yourself in this healing, transformative medicine.

From the third weekend onwards, the focus will be on training you as a facilitator. It will be in-depth and will provide you with a solid foundation for trauma-informed breathwork facilitation. You will learn a multitude of hands-on techniques, an understanding of when to apply them, and how to hold a deeply attuned and supportive space that centers your client.

Time has been scheduled in between hands-on sessions to allow for practice and integration. Weekend five (1 day) will be a review of hands-on material/practices to ensure you have all that you need for practicum.

Weekend 6 (1 day) will include a final group practice session with student facilitators facilitating guest breathers.

Virtual training

Three learning sessions with the option to learn virtually or in-person. The dates and times will be determined by the group.

1. Anatomy and biology of breathing

2. Ethical practice

3. Learn how to facilitate breathwork with a client virtually, including set-up and saftey considerations.

10-week daily breathing practice

In addition, a 10-week guided daily breath practice with weekly check-ins will be offered in February 2027. The beauty of doing this then is that it can support you during your practicum, and help maintain the group container and connection with your classmates. It will involve breathing 2x/day for 15 minutes and will loosely follow Michael Brown's The Presence Process, however it has been adapted to reflect a trauma-informed, inclusive and anti-oppressive lens.

Practicum

Practicum requirements include completion of 30 in-person and five virtual client sessions, or 35 in-person if virtual sessions will not be part of your services, as well as completion of your case study notes and reflections.

You will be encouraged to start facilitating friends and family as early as November 2026. If possible, completion of practicum by the end of June 2027 is recommended so that you can receive mentorship and support throughout.

A course manual will be provided.

Group Consulltation

Monthly virtual group consultations will provide opportunities to share about your insights, growth, learning and challenges. Continue to learn and receive support throughout your practicum.

Certification

Certification will require full attendance and completion of all other requirements (see Certification page).

FAQs

Q: What style of breathwork does this training offer?

Inspiritu conscious connected breathwork has its origins in breathwave, a gentle and balanced approach to breathing that helps the nervous system to balance and restore while also enabling deep release and healing. This is in contrast to other forms of conscious connected breathwork that encourage a more dynamic breathing style - they may elicit big releases, but are not necessarily integrated on a deeper level. Inspiritu also brings a trauma-informed lens to facilitating breathwork which means it can be adapted in a way that best supports the client.

Q: How is this training different from other breathwork trainings?

A: It is different in several ways:

1. It is designed for people who want a location in Vancouver and who want to do their training on weekends in between their regular life responsibilities.

2. It will be taught by Christina Niven who brings over 25 years experience on a holistic healing path including several years as student of yogic and earth medicine teachings. She has facilitated breathwork since 2016 and facilitated at several of her teacher's trainings and retreats. Christina holds a deep respect for this medicine and has experienced profound healing through it. She is also a yoga therapist and a registered clinical counsellor specializing in trauma. Christina brings a wealth of knowledge from clinical and non-clinical perspectives.

3. Small group experience: a maximum group size of eight students will support in depth learning, and fostering of safety and connection.

4. Affordability: Other trainings in BC charge 2 - 3x more than this training after taking into account the multiple levels required to complete the facilitator's training. There is a lower overhead for this training and that is reflected in the price point.

5. It is a well-rounded, in-depth program offering a synthesis of science, psychology and spirituality, and it is trauma and ethics informed.

Q: What can I expect to get out of this training?

A: You can expect an number of things:

1. Gain knowledge and tools that can help you faciliate breathwork safely and through a trauma-informed lens.

2. Learn and practice a number of techniques that can support your clients to deepen in their experience.

3. Develop attunement and awareness of the relationsal field when working with a client

4. To be invited to do your deeper work through your relationship with your breath as well as personal reflection and inquiry using internal family systems (IFS).

5. Have access to extensive ongoing support from Christina in several different ways throughout the program.

6. To develop a close rapport and connection with your classmates and be invited to authentically share about your experiences.

7. To share in ceremony and ritual that honours the sacredness of life and of the breath.

A: The in-person dates are as follows:

Weekend #1: October 17/18, 2026

Weekend #2: October 23/24/25, 2026

Weekend #3: November 13/14/15, 2026
